Synonyms: Arkansia wheeleri
Distribution: Endemic to the Kiamichi and Little Rivers in Oklahoma, and Little and Ouachita Rivers in Arkansas. The only substantial population occurs in the Kiamichi River upstream of Hugo Lake. Single, relic shells have been found in two Red River tributaries in Texas.
Life History and Ecology: sually found only in large, species-rich mussel beds and at low abundance. The Kiamichi River population has declined extensively due to drought and water management. Likely a long-term brooder and host generalist, but fish hosts have not been identified. Periodic life history strategy.
