Synonyms: Anodonta suborbiculata
Distribution: Utterbackiana suborbiculata occurs in the Mississippi River drainage from northeast Iowa south to Louisiana, and in the Escambia River system in Alabama. In Oklahoma, known from Lake Texoma and Robert S. Kerr reservoir, where it was likely introduced.
Life History and Ecology: This species typically inhabits mud substrates in lakes, sloughs, and shallow backwater areas of larger rivers with little to no current. Long-term brooder that reportedly infects and metamorphoses on golden shiner, warmouth, white crappie, and largemouth bass. Opportunistic life history strategy.
